Last month, May 2010 was important for SU Ghana and the SU Africa Region. Our programmes and activities in the month included the following:
1.SU Ghana Council Meeting on May 2, 2010.
A search committee has been set up to work on recruiting a New General Director, comprising Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey, Chairman, Ga Presbytery, Presbyterian Church of Ghana (Chairman), Mr. Emmanuel Baba Mahama (Former CEO of Vanguard Assurance), Mrs. Florence Hutchful (HR Management Consultant), Robert G. Adu-Mante (Management Consultant) and Mr., Jude Hama (General Director, Scripture Union) .
The Council of Scripture Union Ghana is seeking to appoint a successor for the current General Director (Jude Hama) who will be retiring in the last quarter of 2010 “after 20 years of solid ministry” serving as CEO of Scripture Union Ghana.
2.Scripture Union Ghana launched the celebration of its 120th Anniversary at the Accra International Press Centre on May 11, 2010 and announced a “Back to the Bible Campaign” as part of the Anniversary Celebrations.
3.SU Africa Leadership Summit was held in Nairobi Kenya, May 18-22, 2010. Rev. David Gichung’wa, SU Africa Director was Conference Convener. The Conference brought together over 80 participants mostly National Directors and National Board Chairmen from 33 African Countries. Janet Morgan (SU International Director) and Jenny Stewart (SU International Business and Development Manager) were Resource persons from the SU International Office. The conference focused on “Critical Thinking” on SU Core Ministry areas. Jude Hama, SU Ghana General Director presented a paper on “critical thinking on SU Youth Ministry in Africa” This was very well received. Prof. Sam Afrane, Council Chairman of SU Ghana participated in the Leadership Summit and was also a Resource person; he led workshops each day on “Performance Management” in an SU National Movement.
4.The SU National Camps Committee has released 2010 Camps brochure indicating venues for over 40 camps we will organise during the 2010 long vacation(summer) Please see brochure attached. Camps are one of our biggest opportunities for reaching children and Young people for Christ!! We need your prayers and support.
Meanwhile, we have been to the trenches of harvesting and nurturing souls especially through the 120th Anniversary Schools Missions. The Schools Missions schedule for the last weekend and the next three week-ends is as follows:
